Lusaka High Court is
a noted high court within the Zambian nation. The high court recently
gave a final judgment on one of its longest pending cases of PortlandCement Zambia. The ownership of the cement factory has been contested
by two different parties. One of them is Dr. Rajan Mahtani, a noted
businessman, philanthropist and charity worker with more than 30
years of business experience in Zambia. His popularity among the
masses as well as among industry counterparts can be attributed to
his successful business ventures as well as his humble, transparent
and ethical business practices. Dr. Mahtani is the founder and leader
of some of the top companies in Zambia, including Finance Bank
Zambia, Mahtani Group of Companies and Finsbury Investments. He is
also an avid charity worker and has contributed to numerous NGOs and
environmental groups. Dr. Mahtani registered the case of Portland
Cement Zambia at the Lusaka High Court after the factory was
illegally taken with the help of goons. While Dr. Mahtani has always
stayed in the path of ethics and righteousness, it is the government
and its law & order which has failed to provide right justice to
him.
During the long stretched trial of
10 plus years, Dr. Rajan Mahtani has submitted numerous evidences and
documents to support his claim. These included signed shareholder
agreements, financial exhibits as well as independent audit reports.
Despite these strong evidences, the final judgment was given against
Dr. Mahtani’s claims. While it was definitely a shocking event, it
was clear that the judgement was misdirected. As such, Dr. Mahtani
now took the right step and launched an appeal to the higher court of
appeal against this misdirected judgment.
